The WA government released a new app on January 11 which combines the SafeWA checkin app and proof of vaccination in one spot. We know the community may need help with the app, so a simplified step-by-step guide can be found on the PLWA website at the following link or below-

Step 1 – Setting up a myGovID account
If you already have a myGovID set up, skip to Step 2
- You will need any TWO of the following documents and access to your email.
Driver’s licence Medicare card
Birth certificate Passport (with visa if non-Australian)
Citizenship certificate Immigration Card
- On your phone download the myGovID app
- Open the myGovID app – select whether to allow notifications or not
- Select Create a myGovID
- Swipe through the four info screens, then tap on Start now
- Accept the Terms of use
- Enter an email address – you can use the same email address you use for myGov
- Tap on Get code
- Access your email and note the myGovID verification code
- Enter the code in the myGovID app – then tap Next
- You may be asked to use your phone’s Fingerprint or Facial recognition function for added security.
Accept if wished – or tap Not now
- Enter a password according to the instructions on screen – then tap Next
- Enter your details and tap Done – you can ignore or tap X on the warning about Covid vaccination
- You will now need to prove your identity using TWO of the documents listed above.
NOTE: the system appears to ask for a third form of ID, this is not essential, but can be entered if desired
- Tap on the first document – e.g. Driver’s licence
- Scan your licence using your phone’s camera or enter the details manually.
(If there are scanning errors, either rescan or tap Edit and correct these)
- Tick the consent box and tap Submit
- Tap on the second document – e.g. Medicare
- Scan your card using your phone’s camera or enter the details manually.

- Enter your date of birth
- Tick the consent box and tap Submit
- Your myGovID is now set up – you will now set up your ServiceWA account
Step 2 – Setting up a ServiceWA account
If you already have a ServiceWA account set up, skip to Step 3
- On your phone download the ServiceWA app
- Open the ServiceWA app – select whether to allow notifications or not
- Tap Next
- On the Consent page scroll down and tap I agree
- Tap Log in to Service WA
- On the Log in screen, you will see the myGovID as the preferred option – tap Log in
- You will be redirected to the Digital Identity website
- Under myGovID, tick Remember my choice
- Tap on Select myGovID
- Enter the email address used for myGovID
- Tap Remember me then tap Login
- You will be shown a four digit code
- Open the myGov ID app, enter the code and tap Accept
- Open the ServiceWA app
- On the Your consent screen scroll down – tick the Yes and don’t ask me again box
- Tap Consent
- Tap Consent again
- Add your mobile number then tap Next
- Confirm your mobile number
- Enter the confirmation code and tap Next
- Tap Next again
- Tap on Enable SafeWA
- Tap on I agree then tap Next
- Scroll down and tap I agree
- Tap OK to allow camera access
Step 3 – Linking your vaccination certificate
- In the ServiceWA app, tap on Certificate
- Tap on Import through your myGov account
- Login to myGov if required
- Tap Continue
- Tap on Medicare
- Tap on View proof of vaccinations
- Tap on View history
- Tap on Share with check in app
- Tap on Share next to ServiceWA
- Tap Accept and share
- Tap Next
- Scroll down and tap I Agree
- Tap Save Certificate
- Everything should now be set up
